An Exhibition of Historical Photos and Documents on UN-Iran Partnership was inaugurated by UNIC Director, Dr. Maria Dotsenko jointly with the Political Deputy of the Governor of the Semnan Province Mr. Khojastepour in the presence of Semnan Mayor Mr. Nazem-Razavi and Director General of Culture and Islamic Guidance Office in Semnan Mr. Hojjatol Eslam Fazilat and other senior local government officials, as well as Bureau Chief of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in Semnan, Mr. Mohammad Jahangirian, civil society activists, youth, children and general public at Simorgh Gallery of Koomesh Cultural Centre in Semnan, the capital of the Semnan Province, on 22 December 2019.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Dotsenko thanked IRNA, Ministry of Foreign Affair for providing these photos and documents. She also thanked the Semnan provincial authorities for their support.
The exhibition was organized in Semnan by IRNA in the framework of the cooperation between UNIC and IRNA with the support from the Provincial authorities.
“These photos and documents show that Iran has been always active in foreign affairs and invested efforts to promote international peace, security, and multilateralism. Iran was among 51 UN founding Member States and is actively engaged today in strengthening the UN”, she said.
UNIC Director pointed out that the visitors would see many historical moments that are captured on photos and documents such as Dr. Mustafa Adl, Head of Iranian Delegation signing the UN Charter on June 26, 1945, Ambassador Nasrollah Entezan of Iran elected as the President of the 5th session of the UN General Assembly, documents and photos related to the various activities of UN where Iran played and keeps playing an important role.
One of the photos shows H.E. Dr. Rouhani, Iranian President, presenting at the General Assembly his initiative “A World Against Violence and Violent Extremism” (WAVE). This WAVE initiative was adopted by the UN Member States as the General Assembly resolution in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
“Today some 18 UN entities are working in the Islamic Republic of Iran on the invitation of the Iranian government in close cooperation with our national partners for the benefit of Iranian people”, she said adding that so far seven of the UN Secretaries-General have visited Iran.
She also highlighted that the UN supports the Government of Iran, and especially its people, at this particular time, to ease the impact of the economic downturn on the most vulnerable, and to make sure no one is left behind.
The exhibition was already shown in Shiraz, Bushehr, Khorramabad, Arak, Zahedan, Sanandaj, Yazd, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Kerman, Dezful, Qazvin, and Mahabad in the framework of this UNIC-IRNA partnership project.
A large number of people from all walks of life, as well as local government officials and academicians, visited the Exhibition of Historical Photos and Documents on UN-Iran Partnership in Semnan.
UN informational materials in the Persian language were distributed to the exhibition visitors.
During her trip to the Semnan Province, Dr. Dotsenko also participated in the meeting among the Government officials, civil society and private sector, who are working closely to protect the environment and rich biodiversity of this province. She said that its impressive to see how the united efforts of authorities, civil society, and the private sector produce tangible results in an important area of environment protection and combating climate change. Dr. Dotsenko was invited to this event by the UNIC partner, Maryam Halaji, Head of Pazh Art Institute and her partners.
Dr. Dotsenko also visited Ranginkaman (Rainbow) Library which is the Semnan Municipality’s specialized library for children, where the municipal authorities jointly with the library management are promoting interest to reading while applying the concept of Child-Friendly City. She had a tour of the library where she was briefed by the library’s manager Mr. Ali Akbar Baniasadi. She was told that kids of Semnan can order their favorable books online and get them through the post office delivery. The library also serves adults.
