UNA-Iran’s Statement on the Latest Terror Attack
July 20, 2010

The sixth terrorist attack in Sistan and Baluchistan province took place as our fellow country folk were celebrating religious festivities.

In one voice with the international community, the United Nations Association of Iran (UNA-Iran) strongly condemns the terror attacks in Zahedan, because in all its forms, terrorism is absolutely unjustifiable, let alone the act taking place in a place of worship full of civilian worshippers which resulted in the deaths of 27and injuries to 300.

This attack is undoubtedly intended to cause a split between the Shia and Sunni population of the province and is in fact a security threat for both the border regions and also the region itself and pursues to harm the unity between the two religious sects.

While condemning all forms of terrorism, UNA-Iran calls upon the international community and responsible institutions to firmly stand against this injustice and strongly condemn it. UNA-Iran also urges the Iranian authorities to quickly bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.

UNA-Iran acknowledges and appreciates the show of sympathy made by the UN Secretary General, EU officials and other international political figures.

UNA-Iran expresses its deepest sympathies and condolences towards the families of the victims and urges them to preserve their unity and help defeat the perpetrators of these crimes from achieving their objectives.
