- Introduction to International Mechanisms – the UN Model; For NGOs Representatives Education Course
This course was held on 3-5 January 2009 by UNA-Iran and the cooperation of UNA Edinburgh with the aim of raising the awareness of NGOs of the UN mechanism. Attending the course were 40 experts from NGOs.
On the first day of the course, as well as pivotal subjects of education, historic dimensions, issues, permanent education solutions and challenges, the MDG that includes, eradication of poverty and hunger, universal access to basic education, promotion of gender equality, reduction of child mortality rates, improvement of maternity health, fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, safeguarding the sustainability of the environment, and creation of a global partnership for development were also discussed and reviewed.
On the second day the discussion was on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and issues such as the effects of nuclear weapons, the situation of the nuclear arsenal around the world today, review of some of the articles of the NPT, the reciprocal influence of the people, NGOs and governments in the prevention of the proliferation of these weapons and review of international law and human rights mechanisms on disarmament were some of the other subjects discussed in this framework.
- Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management Education Course
This course which was held on 22-23 February 2009 (16 hours), was designed for the presentation of the concepts and principles of HSE management and their role in safeguarding and controlling sustainable development for MS experts in environmental management and environmental engineering. In this course, the management system elements of HSE that include: leadership and commitment, policies and strategic objectives, organization, resources and documentation, evaluation and risk management, planning, establishment and monitoring, and reassessment were discussed.
At the end of the two-day course the participants received jointly signed (the course tutor and UNA-Iran vice-president).

- UN System and its Activities in Iran Education Course for Law and Political Science Students
This course which was held on 13, 14, 20 and 21 May 2009, was with the aim of the participants to get a new perspective on the theoretic and practical dimensions of the UN system, its objectives, activities and achievements and its abilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the realisation of the MDG, with the speeches of representatives from 18 UN agencies representatives in Iran. In this education course, the objectives, activities and programmes of UN agencies in Iran were described by experts from these agencies, with a Q&A session at the end. At the end of the course the participants received certificates jointly signed by the director of UNA-Iran and the head of UNIC.
- Principles and Methods of CV Writing Education Workshop for University Students
This education workshop was held for Azad University students on 17 May. In this workshop the following subjects were presented: CV and objective in writing them, initial activities, important principles in CV writing, types of CVs, important points in writing CVs.
At the end of the workshop while evaluating the participants certificates were presented to them by UNA-Iran.
- Introduction to Facilitation Methods Education Course for NGOs Representatives
This education workshop was held in two stages (preliminary and advanced) for 20 NGOs representatives over five days in September 2009 and with the cooperation of Pishtaz Andisheh Tose’eh Institute. In this course, time management, methods for starting the workshop, evaluation of the workshop, methods in ending the workshop were taught to the participants. At the end of the course the participants received certificates.
- Women’s Rights in the Judicial Justice Process International Conference
This conference was held on 20-21 December with the cooperation of UNA-Iran, the Organization for Defending Victims of Violence, the Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights, Tehran’s Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, UNFPA, and the Social Damaged Association in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Research and Education Department hall.
The conference was held with the aim of promoting the role of women judges in the criminal justice process and issuing of sentences, presentation of practical solutions for further access to justice and the transfer of valuable international achievements in the judicial justice process for the realisation of women’s rights.
Taking part in this conference there were researches and judges from Iran, Switzerland, Bahrain, Australia, Pakistan, Italy, Sudan, Iraq and Scotland (UK).
- Participation in the 10th, 11th and 12th Sessions of the Human Rights Council
As in the past, UNA-Iran took part in the 10th Session of the Human Rights Council (2-27 March 2009) in Geneva, Switzerland. While attending the main arena of the Session, UNA-Iran also participated in sidelines meetings.
UNA-Iran had active participation in the 11th Session of the Human Rights Council which took place from 29 September May to 12 June of the same year.
Also, while participating in the 12th Session of the Human Rights Council (14 September to 2 October), UNA-Iran took part in the WFUNA sidelines sitting which was on Global Human Rights Education Programme, meeting with the International Rural Women Foundation, joint sitting with the regional head of CONGO, the right to development sidelines meeting and health and prisons situation sidelines sitting.
